Usher hits the studio again, this time with 18 year old Martin Garrix, best known for his 2013 hit track Animals. The cute duo have collaborated for an awesome new summer jam Don’t Look Down.

The song is taken from Martin’s upcoming debut album ‘+X’ which is expected to be released later this year, although an official date has not yet been confirmed.

The newly released video was launched via the 2015 YouTube Music Awards and features a sneaky appearance by actor Balthazar Getty.

Video director Petros, takes us through the adventures of working pool-side in the steamy summer months. It really is a fun little production, unpredictable and complete with dancing on water and sea horse floaties that come to life!

Jason Derulo – Want To Want Me

By | Music, Music Videos | No Comments

Jason Derulo just released Want To Want Me, his latest single to date with a steamy video to go with it. This was no ordinary song release though, it was debuted in a rather interesting way.

“I wanted to find a new unique way to launch my video,” Jason stated in a press release.

“I know my fans are tapped into social networking so what better way to launch my video for Want To Want Me than through one of the fastest rising social networking apps, Tinder. I see this app as the wave of the future. I know my fans will swipe right.’’

It was a good move on his behalf, as he is now getting tonnes of media buzz reporting about how he was the first to ever think of releasing a video this way. Damn it… now we wish we had the app (even though we’re not looking for a date…)!

Charli XCX – Famous

By | Music, Music Videos | No Comments

Charli XCX was another huge name to release new material for the 2015 YouTube Music Awards which were presented and uploaded yesterday to YouTube in a lengthy playlist. Her addition to the huge melting pot of talent was a creepy music video for her song Famous. Charli teamed up with Eric Wareheim of Tim and Eric Awesome Show, Great Job! fame for a truly terrifying, darkly comic visual.

The video is hard to sanely describe, a trippy social media take of the underworld in a nutshell… we think. It’s a seriously bewildering production to say the least, and leaves us with just one nagging question. What just happened?

Charli was one of the breakout artists of 2014, and earned her YouTube Music Award on the strength of music videos for Sucker singles Boom Clap, Break the Rules and her collaboration with Iggy Azalea for Fancy.

Ed Sheeran & Rudimental – Bloodstream

By | Music, Music Videos | No Comments

Ed Sheeran and Rudiemntal premiered a cinematic new video for Bloodstream, specially for the 2015 YouTube Music Awards which were presented yesterday (March 23). The song features the English four-membered band Rudimental, who seem to be collaborating with all the greats lately.

The gripping music video, directed by Emil Nava, follows the Goodfellas actor Ray Liotta as he plays a drunken, washed-up frontman of fictional hair-metal group Black Glove. He appears to have it all—money, lots of awards, fame, big house and women—but he’s still miserable and lonely. He tries to drown his pain with alcohol and lots of sex, but it’s not enough…

We’ve gotta say, Ed Sheeran is really going from good to great with each new release, and to think it all started with a YouTube upload.

CHIC ft Nile Rodgers – I’ll Be There

By | Music, Music Videos | No Comments

Nile Rodgers chose the vernal equinox (March 20) to premiere his new music video for the first new Chic single in 23 years – I’ll Be There. The timing of the release with the equinox was to signify the rebirth of the Chic Organisation. The single is the first cut to be lifted from their forthcoming album It’s About Time – the first Chic album since 1992’s Chic-ism. The album is due for release later this year and could feature collaborations with Miley Cyrus, Sir Elton John and Janelle Monae.

The idea for the album came to being in 2010 when Rodgers found a box of tapes with unfinished Chic material featuring vocals from the late Edwards and Luther Vandross, among others. After listening to it all it gave Rodgers the inspiration to finish the material. However, a few months later he learned he had prostrate cancer – putting the album’s theme of ‘time’ into sharp perspective.

Now, cancer-free, Rodgers said: “I’ve always had a lot to say, but it’s always worked best when I say it through music. So when I thought about where I was at this point in my life, all I kept thinking about was time.”

I’ll Be There is a collaboration with house duo The Martinez Brothers – it’s a classic disco-funk sound, utilizing a four-on-the-floor groove, soulful harmonies and Rodgers’ amazing rhythm guitar.

The song is a tribute to late Chic founder Bernard Edwards, who passed away back in 1996. “When I found my partner Bernard’s body in the room, I said, ‘Now I can be there for you in death the way you were there for me in life’,” Rodgers recently told Digital Spy.

The Inez & Vindooh-directed music video features supermodel Karlie Kloss and some wonderful vintage footage of Chic performing on Soul Train.

Jennifer Lopez – Feel The Light

By | Films, Music, Music Videos | No Comments

J.LO is a space-goddess in her newest music video Feel The Light. Directed by Hype Williams it is jam-packed with snippets from the movie Home which the song was created for.

The 3D animated feature film, directed by Tim Johnson and produced by DreamWorks, is based on Adam Rex’s children’s books The True Meaning of Smekday. In a nutshell, a well-intended alien race named Boov come down to our earth in hopes of hiding from their mortal enemy. They start relocating us to a Desert Planet, thinking they are doing us a favour. The real fun adventure begins when a teenage girl (voice by Rihanna), manages to avoid being captured. She’s on the run, and searching for her Mother (voice by Jennifer Lopez). Along the way she happens upon a banished alien who has accidentally notified his people’s enemies of their whereabouts.

There’s an amazing voice over cast including Steve Martin, who plays Captain Smek, the leader of the Boov race. Jim Parsons who plays Oh, the banished Boov and Matt L. Jones as one of the other Boovs. The whole production seems pretty amazing and Barack Obama even visited the DreamWorks studios during the making of the film, and met with Steve and Jim who were recording lines at the time.

M.O – Preach

By | Music, Music Videos | No Comments

M.O are coming out with a debut album May 3, and they have released a taster of what’s to come with their latest song Preach.  Their vocals are honey smooth and they moves are free and sensual – the whole video is jam packed with positive vibes.

The British up-and-coming trio consisting of Annie, Frankee and Nadine are taking us for a trip down memory lane to the 90s (the girl group galore era) with their style, lyrics and R&B beats. Nothing throws us further back into the 90s than baggy double denim and white sneakers, but we are really loving it!

Group member Annie tells online news source Digital Spy “We grew up on 90s R&B and garage, and that’s the music we want to put back out there.’’ Nadine added: “We’ve been waiting for it to come back around and it hasn’t, so we’ve decided to do it ourselves!”

The girls described the song and video to Fader: “Uplifting, we were trying to tell people to stay true to themselves, not to get caught up in anyone else’s game and never settle for something you don’t feel 100% about! That’s what we were trying to put out there – other people might be fine with being satisfied – it’s like saying ‘things are ok…’ we want and need to feel more!”

Nicely done girls! That’s all we have to say, and we wait in anticipation for the release of more material.

Snoop Dogg – Peaches N Cream

By | Music Videos | No Comments

Snoop Dogg’s latest release is definitely interesting. Peaches N Cream featuring Pharrell Williams and Charlie Wilson takes you to a land we could only describe as ‘wake and bake.’ You’ve got to be some kind of high to write that song, collaborate on it and create the video concept. The visual directors Aramis Israel and Hannah Lux Davis, captured the song’s vibe dramatically, creating a psychedelic adventure with the help of lots of neons and a wild imagination.

Despite its strangeness, we’re totally digging the Snoop Doggy Dogg original style. There are musical and lyrical undertones in this song which correlate to all of his past material and is unquestionable to his uniqueness. That’s what draws you in and makes it so likeable. If you are a long time fan of Snoop, then you’re definitely going to love this track.

Remember these days? Snoop & Pharrell collaborating 13 years ago in their song Beautiful from 2002!

Then in 2004 they come out with 2 hugely successful gems Drop It Like It’s Hot and Let’s Get Blown.

Fast forwarding back to 2015 where Snoop’s new album Bush is set to be released May 12. The album contains yet another collab with his buddy Pharrell titled Roll My Shit. Appropriately. Snoop has described this new album as having a ‘Funkadelic Glow’ and we couldn’t think of a better description!

Spanning over three decades, their repertoire has included such diverse genres as pop, disco, jazz, electronic music, bebop, blues, soul, funk, dance, country and rock.

Im So Excited, originally released in 1982 and then re-released in 1984 is considered to be the group’s signature song. Two years later a slightly remixed and edited version appeared on the multi-platinum album Break Out.

In 2001, the song was included in the RIAA and National Endowment for the Arts project Songs of the Century, a list intended to “promote a better understanding of America’s musical and cultural heritage.” The song was ranked #264 out of 365 songs.

Of Monsters and Men – Crystals

By | Music Videos | No Comments

The unique Icelandic group Of Monsters and Men are back on the scene with their latest single Crystals. The lyric video, directed by Tjarnargatan, lets us take a front row seat to the passions of life, love and tribulation seen through the eyes of a gruff old man; told to us by his expressions in a black and white empty landscape.

It’s such a simple concept for a video, but really quite genius, when you realise how strongly the audience connects to what they are seeing, hearing and reading. It’s such a great combination to accompany such a meaningful song.

Crystals is taken from the groups forthcoming album Beneath the Skin, set to be released June 8 via Universal Music. In addition they will be releasing a deluxe version featuring two other brand new songs as well as a Grizzly Bear remix of their album track Black Water. That’s the one we’ll be getting as soon it comes out, for sure. Love us a bit of deluxe!
