2CELLOS – They Don’t Care About Us

By | Music, Music Videos | No Comments

Music’s most electric and dynamic instrumental duo, 2Cellos, have just released a powerful video for their cover of Michael Jackson’s They Don’t Care About Us. Looking like a scene fromThe Hunger Games or Divergent, Luka and Stjepan have created an evocative and cinematic visual with a poignant message.

The visual sees the pair dressed as opposing soldiers who represent pawns in a chess game and also pawns in a war as well. They symbolise individuals who are basically helpless against government rule and other controlling powers, such as the influential elite. The track is taken from their latest self-produced album Celloverse.

The comments on YouTube reveal how blown away everyone is by this creative and clever visual:

“They Don’t Care About Us might be one of my favorite Michael Jackson songs of all time. Well… +2CELLOS got their hands on it. This video is awesome!”

“MJ would be soooo damn freaking proud of you two! Best rendition of the song, ever!”

“+2CELLOS This is probably the best front page Youtube video in years, if not ever. I love how you pointed out those that play geopolitical chess and send us to war don’t really care about us.”

Sugarhill Gang – Rapper’s Delight

By | Music | No Comments

#ThrowbackThursday – 36 years ago the Sugarhill Gang, comprised of Big Bank Hank, Wonder Mike and Master Gee, were the first hip-hop act to debut on the Billboard Hot 100 charts. Several years before this the hip-hop culture had begun to take shape at parties in New York, specifically the Bronx and Queens, when people would spontaneously rhyme over a beat – hip-hop was all about performing at parties or clubs, not making studio releases. While it was not the first single to feature rapping, it is certainly considered to be the song that first popularised hip-hop around the world.

Sugarhill Records founder and CEO, Sylvia Robinson, put together the Sugarhill Gang trio to record their rhymes over the recent Chic hit Good Times. The final result was a 14-minute single, cut in one take that found the gang bragging about money, their sexual prowess, their brilliant skills at the mic and even complaining about stomach ache. Leaving out the stomach ache, the other 3 themes still resonate in hip-hop today.

The song is ranked at Nº251 on the Rolling Stone magazine’s list of The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time and Nº2 on both About.com’s and VH1’s 100 Greatest Hip-Hop Songs. It is included in NPR’s list of the 100 most important American musical works of the 20th century and was named as the Greatest Really Long Rock Song of all time by Digital Dream Door. It was preserved into the National Recording Registry by the Library of Congress in 2011, calling it “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant.” At the time of release it went to Nº1 in Canada and the Netherlands, Nº2 in Norway, Sweden and Switzerland and Nº3 in the UK and Germany.

If you love rapping along to this and don’t remember all the words, check out the lyrics here.

Adam Lambert – Ghost Town

By | Music, Music Videos | No Comments

Adam Lambert’s new music video for Ghost Town was directed by the legendary Hype Williams (Beyoncé’s Drunk In Love and Kanye’s Gold Digger videos), and features the director’s trademark strobing editing. The dancing is quite incredible – we’ve replayed it a few times just to take it all in. Lambert describes it as “Coachella gone goth”.

“A lot of the people that we hired for the video are friends of mine. It was really fun on set. It was kind of a party, which made it a very relaxed shoot – I’ve never shot a video like that before, that felt like a house party.” The 33-year-old was ultimately creating a group that “represents real parts of my life, ’cause I wanted it to feel like a piece of me.”

As a coincidence the title of the song is the same as Madonna’s recent single. Lambert admits he was shocked when he found this out. “This was done, it was mixed, we had already decided that it was the first single and then December rolled around and I opened up my laptop and looked on iTunes and there was another ‘Ghosttown,'” he says. “It was funny to me because I’m a huge Madonna fan and have been following her career ever since I was a kid and maybe there’s something in the universe going on, I don’t know. Maybe our writers all drank the same Kool-Aid. I don’t know what it was, but it was amazing.”

Ghost Town is the first single to be lifted from Lambert’s upcoming album The Original High, due for a June 15 release.

Tried & Tested: Top 10 Apple Watch Apps

By | Featured

At the time of writing this article there are now 3,408 approved apps for Apple Watch and the number is increasing daily. With so many to choose from it’s difficult to know where to start. We present here our tried and tested apps – 10 apps that we now can’t live without – a bit of an exaggeration, but you know what we mean!

1 – Twitter (Social Networking app)
Twitter is beautifully simple and engaging on the Apple Watch. The small screen suits the 140 character limit perfectly. We prefer using Twitter on the watch than on any other device. You can view tweets, mentions and favourites and check trends really easily. It’s dead easy to deal with notifications and simple to follow someone who has just followed you. Also recommended: Facebook and Instagram

1-TWITTER-must-haves

2- C1 (Music Recognition)
You might see this as blowing our trumpet because we developed it… but hey, we love it! We use it all the time! It’s way better than going through the embarrassment of talking to Siri and letting the world know how uncool you are because you don’t recognise the song that’s playing. And it’s a lot cleaner and far more beautiful than Shazam. C1 has basically one function – to tell you what music is playing. It also gives you related videos, artist info and stores all your searches in history. If you are a C5 user you can then play the song on your stereo system or on the TV using DLNA / Chromecast. Find out more here.

3-Dark Sky (Weather app)
There is a weather app that comes bundled with Apple Watch but it’s very cluttered and we didn’t enjoy using it as it was too complicated. In Dark Sky everything is stripped right back and you are left with just the basic, important information like temperature, a basic written forecast and the all-important rainfall prediction for the next hour or so. It’s very accurate- 90% of the time we found it to be telling the truth!

3-DARK-SKY-must-haves2

4-Calcbot (Calculator)
We can’t believe that Apple didn’t include a calculator! Obviously, they are all far too clever in California to need such basic things. There is not really much to say about Calcbot except that it’s an excellent calculator. They’ve also thrown in unit conversions for temperatures, weight, lengths and more. Very handy for us thickos!

4-CALCBOT-must-haves3

5- Currencies and Exchange Rates
Very handy when you are travelling as you can instantly check exactly how much money you are really spending. You can convert 160 different currencies into the currency of your choice. All you have to do is to tell Siri to “Launch Currencies”. Simples.

5-CURRENCIES-must-haves4

6-Quote of the Day (Inspiration)
We all need a daily dose of inspiration and the dose provided by Quote of the Day is highly shareable and quotable! We love the way you can quickly add a gorgeous image to a quote and share it with your friends. It’s so stylish! You can also save your favourites in a personal gallery and look through them when you are having a really bad day.

6-QUOTE-OF-THE-DAY-must-haves5

7-Night Sky Pro (Stargazing)
Night Sky Pro has long been a favourite app of ours. Come on, how cool is it to point your device to the sky to see what stars, planets and constellations you are looking at? Awesome fun! With the Apple Watch app you get live push notifications for ideal stargazing times. You can check out the stargazing clock and see exactly what’s around you. The interface works surprisingly well on the watch format and is simple to use. It’s also educational and virtually impossible to put down. We love it! Very impressive when you are dining out under the stars with friends.

7-NIGHT-SKY-must-haves6

8-Breaking News
Well, it’s not a fun app because news is hardly ever fun these days, but it’s very handy and you can tailor it to suit you, for stories that break near your location/country for example. Sources of news are trustworthy and delivered the moment they break.

8-BREAKING-must-haves7

9-Ticker (Stocks and Shares)
We like a little flutter now again – we’re not serious investors but do like to keep an eye on the markets. This stocks portfolio manager is pretty cool for investors on the move. It’s dead easy to view your stocks lists and portfolio. We like the feature that allows you to resume your viewing where you left off. So if you check out a particular stock on your Apple Watch, you can view exactly the same screen when you pick up your iPhone hours later.

9-STOCKS-must-haves8

10- Boiled Egg Timer
This is superb! We’ve never been able to get our eggs cooked perfectly, but with this app we’ve finally succeeded! You can select the size of your egg, define how runny or firm you’d like the yolk and then do whatever you like until the app alerts you. The interface is clean, simple and bright. This is one app we certainly can’t do without – not now that we’ve enjoyed such yolky perfection!

10-BOLIED-EGGmust-haves9

Other recommended apps that we didn’t include in this list are the airline ones – we use the British Airways one (because we always fly British Airways whenever possible) but there are loads of good airline apps out there. They let you see a summary of your next flight, flight number, departure time, flight status and even the weather at your destination.

Ricky Martin – Mr. Put It Down
ft. Pitbull

By | Music, Music Videos | No Comments

Ricky Martin teams up with Mr Worldwide for a raunchy, upbeat disco-flavored jam, Mr. Put It Down. With Pitbull spitting out his signature licks and Ricky’s falsetto versus they make a great pair!

In one of the best lyric videos we’ve seen this year, all the action takes place in a tattoo parlour. Pitbull starts off by boasting about how good he is with the ladies and then Ricky joins in – “Who has a lifetime, baby? We’ve got the night right now. When you see what I’m planning, you’re gonna call me Mr. Put It Down.”

Ricky released his 10th studio album, A Quien Quiera Escuchar – a completely Spanish album, back in mid February and now we have the first single from album number 11. The new album is more of an international affair with all the tracks being in English and is scheduled to be released later this year via Sony Music Latin.

Conor Maynard – Royalty

By | Music, Music Videos | No Comments

For Conor Maynard’s last single, Talking About, he teamed up with Craig David, for this new single, Royalty, he joined forces with Labrinth. “He knew exactly what he wanted to create, in such detail that it took us three hours to record the first verse,” Maynard said on working with Labrinth.

“I had to sing in a swing/jazz style, which I never imagined I’d even attempt. Royalty really does sound like nothing else out there, which is such a rare quality in pop.”

Conor Maynard burst onto the music scene just four years ago as a YouTube sensation. He performed covers of well-known songs and they were so good that his viewing figures rose exponentially. Conor was especially happy when Timberlake – one of his favourite artists – watched his cover of Senorita and approved.

It didn’t take long before he was approached by record companies and in 2012 he collaborated with Pharrell Williams on his first album Contrast and found success in the UK and the US. This highly successful first album had an incredible four top 10 singles – Can’t Say No, Vegas Girl, Turn Around, and Animal. He now has nearly 700,000 subscribers on his YouTube channel and the first single from his upcoming album, Talking About, got 800,000 views in under a month.

Royalty is released on July 5 through Parlophone Records.

The Tonight Show
Obama Expressions

By | Featured

Jimmy Fallon has hosted The Tonight Show since February 2014 and consistently produces a hilarious show. He certainly has a knack for capturing and naming some of President Obama’s facial expressions.

Last week, Fallon unveiled the another edition of the Obama Expressions: “President Obama is obviously on the news a lot lately – there’s been tons of photos of him and the thing I’ve noticed is that he has a very expressive face. He has thousands of different facial expressions, one for every occasion. We all know the classics like this one – “The Determined Yet Hopeful” –

“There’s a lot more that you just don’t see that often which means it’s time for another edition of Obama Expressions!

Don Omar – Perdido En Tus Ojos
ft. Natti Natasha

By | Music, Music Videos | No Comments

Puerto Rican reggaetón singer, music producer, actor and Latin Grammy winner Don Omar has an irresistibly catchy summer single on his hands with Perdido En Tus Ojos. Featuring his long time collaborator Dominican singer Natti Natasha the song is full of grab-a-partner-and-dance beats and is surging up the charts.

The song tells the story of a love sick man who is basically lost in the eyes of the woman he loves. The single is the second cut from Don Omar’s upcoming album The Last Don 2 scheduled to be released this summer.

The album features more collaborations with other latin stars like Plan B and Daddy Yankee. If the rest of the album is as good as this track, the King of Latin Urban Music, or El Rey, looks set to hold onto his throne.

37 year old Don Omar has sold more than 15 million records worldwide.

Jessie J – Flashlight

By | Music, Music Videos | No Comments

Beloved British pop star Jessie J has released a new music video for her uplifting single Flashlight, written by Sam Smith and Sia. Besides appearing on the soundtrack to Pitch Perfect 2, Flashlight is also featured in the movie as the finale in a breathtaking moonlit concert.

Before the concert you get to see Jessie J looking like one of the students in Barden University (aka the UCLA campus), rocking some leather overalls and belting out the beautiful track in the university gardens. Directed by Hannah Lux Davies, the video also shows a lot of unseen footage from the upcoming movie.

Jessie J premiered the video exclusively with ET online before uploading to Vevo the next day. In the interview with ET she talked about the song’s meaning: “I guess the ultimate feel behind the video and the concept is about giving someone something happy, you’re my flashlight,” she says. “Having someone that gives you light in moments of darkness.”

Pitch Perfect 2 hits cinemas on May 15.

Yelawolf – Best Friend ft. Eminem

By | Music, Music Videos | No Comments

Slim Shady and his protégé Yelawolf pay tribute to the Father, Son and Holy Ghost in their soulful new music video for Best Friend. The track is the lead cut from Yelawolf’s second studio album, Love Story, which is currently soaring up the Billboard album charts heading for a top 10 debut this week.

Directed by Spidy, the video is a simple and powerful visual which sees the rappers delivering their verses inside an empty church with sunlight pouring through the stained glass windows. Yelawolf keeps it fairly calm whilst Eminem aggressively delivers more than 16 bars, as per usual.

Best Friend is the only track on Love Story that features a guest collaboration, and it marks Eminem’s first musical release this year. “There’s one feature on this album, and that’s Eminem,” Yelawolf told Complex. “Why am I gonna get such-and-such? For what? Hype? I’m just trying to make a good record.”

In a recent interview with MTV Yelawolf said that Best Friend was a perfect fit for Eminem. “The song was already really strong, and I knew that I was touching on something that was serious — or, to me, it was. The melody in the song, it came together, and I just thought, If Marshall, if he gets on this and understands this concept, that it would be outta here. So I just crossed my fingers and sent it to him. Luckily, he understood it perfectly, and obviously killed it.”

Most fans seem to be in agreement that the song is amazing. Nearly all the YouTube comments are positive – we rather liked the one: “Even though im an atheist I still love this song, both Em and Yelas part.” and this one: “God speaks in amazing ways. Through many people. ”
