Gorgon City – Unmissable ft. Zak Abel

By | Music Videos | No Comments

A new entry in the top 20 of the UK charts this week is Gorgon City with their smooth, impossible-not-to-love jam Unmissable, featuring upcoming soul singer Zak Abel. Both of their previous singles Ready for Your Love and Here for You made it into the UK top 5 and this dance anthem will surely follow suit.

The production duo’s debut album Sirens is officially released today (October 6) and it features vocals from Katy B, Jennifer Hudson amongst others, and writing credits from Kiesza and Emeli Sandé. For any fan of dance music this is a must-have album.

It seems that Gorgon City is a DJ and production team that cannot be stopped. Kye ‘Foamo’ Gibbon and Matt ‘RackNRuin’ Robson-Scott produce soulful house music that actually defies genre qualification. They have collaborated with some of the best singers in the world and continue to churn out powerful music that touches the heart. This year alone they have played everywhere from Glastonbury to Ibiza, basically every hip scene the world over, and their year is not over yet. They have just completed their first ever BBC Radio 1 Essential Mix, and their album released today will surely set things on fire.

In a recent interview with Magnetic they talked about the origins of their rather unusual name Gorgon City: “It is linked to Medusa, sort of gorgon vibes, greek mythology and stuff, but it was kind of quite random when we first came up with it. We thought it sounded a bit different, but now we are exploring it more and we’ve got a cool creative team on our label who are helping us develop the idea of what Gorgon City is, and creating really cool shit for our live shows and for the album. It’s turning into something more than what it was when we first started it, you know? It was random when we started, but now it has its own identity. It feels like it is building something.” Read the full interview here.

Keith Urban – Somewhere In My Car

By | Music Videos | No Comments

Keith Urban loves cars and loves sex. His hot and steamy music video for Somewhere in My Car, combines them both. Perfect!

(To watch this video in Creation 5, just tap here.)

Urban shocked everyone last week when he realised this seductive music video for his new single. The 46-year-old justified it by saying that he “likes sex and sexy things” so these visuals did the song justice. However, Urban doesn’t appear in the raunchy scenes as he says that it’s important that fans focus on the song, not who is making out on the screen.

He also cited a really busy touring schedule as another reason for not appearing. “Ha! Well, certainly I was touring … but it’s not really about “who” is doing all the making out so much as the act of it,” Urban said.

At the moment, Urban is right in the middle of filming the auditions for American Idol but he plans to continue releasing songs from his chart topping album Fuse. “This album (Fuse) is firing on all cylinders with more to come from it. And yet I’m as creatively hungry and curious as I’ve ever been. It’s truly been a phenomenal year and it ain’t even over yet.”

Even after eight years of marriage he is still as besotted with his wife Nicole Kidman, as the day when he married her. And even sweeter – he writes her love letters each night they are apart! Too cute.

Cheryl – I Don’t Care (Explicit)

By | Music Videos | No Comments

Cheryl Cole (Fernandez-Versini) has premiered a music video for her new single I Don’t Care. Shot in beautiful Marbella, Cheryl dances on the beach, lives it up on yacht, plays around by the pool and basically doesn’t give a f**k about anything.

(To watch this video in Creation 5, just tap here.)

This single follows on from the X Factor judge’s recent Nº1 single Crazy Stupid Love and was written by John Newman, Bonnie McKee and Jocke Ahlund. It’s the latest cut from her upcoming 4th album Only Human and has quite an 80’s vibe to it with breezy synths and pumping bass.

It’s quite unusual to hear Cheryl swear so much, the lyrics include the emphatic line:“”I don’t care, and it feels so f**king good to say, I swear that I don’t care.”

Talking about the upbeat, pop track Cheryl said, “I’m a woman now; I’m at that age that things don’t bother me like they used to. I still care about things, but I’ve discovered what’s important to care about, and what’s most definitely not.”

I Don’t Care will be released on November 9 through Polydor Records.

Flying Lotus – Never Catch Me
ft. Kendrick Lamar

By | Music Videos | No Comments

Los Angeles beat maker Steve Ellison aka Flying Lotus has just dropped a spiritual music video for his single Never Catch Me ft Kendrick Lamar. It might be about death but it’s still pretty inspirational. Directed by Hiro Murai the video is set at a funeral for two children, and what starts as a sad, mournful affair ends with a joyous celebration as the two ‘dead’ children jump out of their caskets and dance gleefully down the aisles.

(To watch this video in Creation 5, just tap here.)

Flying Lotus’s new album You’re Dead! is being released by Warp Records on October 7 – and the theme of the whole album is ‘death’. To mark the launch of the album Ellison will kick off a 24-hour live broadcast of the album today (October 3) starting at 5 p.m. EST on his official web site. The stream will also include the feature-length film Psychadelic Death Trip by Xavier Magot.

Independent record stores throughout the US are hosting listening events for Your Dead! and all stores will have limited edition art cards from artist Shintaro Kago. 12 of these stores (randomly chosen) will also be giving away vinyl test pressings. Ellison himself will appear at Amoeba Hollywood on October 6 to sign copies of the new album.

Ellison starts a huge north American tour in Orlando, Florida on October 9, visiting 19 arenas during 3 months. He comes to the UK on April 17, 2015 and will perform at the O2 in London.

First Trailer for Pixar’s Inside Out

By | Music Videos | No Comments

Emotions, as we all know, are bonkers, and this film aims to convey just that. In what seems to be a terrific idea for a film, Inside Out mostly takes place in the mind of an 11 year old girl called Riley. Inside her mind her emotions are personified as cute, real characters. Anger is played by The Daily Show’s Lewis Black, Disgust by Mindy Kaling (The Mindy Project), Fear by Bill Hader (Knocked Up), Joy by Amy Poehler (Parks and Recreation) and Sadness by Phyllis Smith (The Office).

(To watch this video in Creation 5, just tap here.)

Directed by Peter Docter (Up, Monsters Inc) and inspired by his own daughter, this is Pixar’s first film since Monsters University, almost two years ago. This is an important release for Pixar, firstly because it focuses on a female protagonist who isn’t a princess, and secondly because it reminds us all just how much joy and sadness Pixar’s 19-year legacy has brought us. There is not much actual footage of the film in the trailer as the first minute is given over to sharing a mass of emotional moments from other Pixar releases.

Anyway, Pixar might be selling their emotional legacy in this trailer – but it works for us, we can’t wait to see it! Inside Out will open in US theatres on June 19, 2015 and in UK theatres on July 24.

Fiesta Latina

“In Performance at the White House: Fiesta Latina” is a concert hosted by the President and Mrs. Obama on the South Lawn of the White House. The concert includes performances from Marc Anthony, Jimmy Smits, Pete Escovedo, Gloria Estefan, José Feliciano, George Lopez, Thalía, Tito “El Bambino”, the Bachata music group Aventura, and the Chicano rock band Los Lobos, with Sheila E. leading the house band.

In his opening address President Obama talked about the music that helped define a nation:
“During Hispanic Heritage Month we are honored to be joined by this country’s most successful and innovative performers of Latin music. Like our own latino community, Latin music is not easy to define. Although it takes many forms its spirit of diversity also unifies us. At its heart are the West African rhythms brought by slaves in the Caribbean, the guitars first carried to the new world by the Spanish conquistadors, it incorporates the accordians played by German immigrants, the flutes and drums used by indigenous peoples and the beats born in cities like New York and Miami. And even though it’s constantly evolving and changing, Latin music speaks to us in a language we can all understand – about hope and joy, sorrow and pain, friendship and love. It moves us and tends to make us move a little bit ourselves. In the end, what makes Latin music great is the same thing that makes America great – the unique ability to celebrate our differences while creating something new.”

“In the words of Gloria Estefan “the most beautiful things in this country have the flavour of other places.” So to all of you who are watching please enjoy some truly global music from some of the most talented artists in the world. I can tell you that the West wing, the East wing and whatever other wings we have here at The White House, have been looking forward to this evening for quite sometime. Enjoy! Thank you!”

The Magician – Sunlight ft Years & Years

By | Music Videos | No Comments

Belgian producer The Magician, previously one half of revered Balearic disco duo Aeroplane, is this week’s highest new entry in the British charts at Nº 5 with the wonderful, upbeat, groovy dance track Sunlight. Close your eyes…and it’s still summer. If you’re looking for a a mood-shifting auditory pick me up today – this is it!

(To watch this video in Creation 5, just tap here.)

Sunlight is a wonderful nu-disco, pop/club-house, indie-dance track that will have you up on the dance floor in minutes. It’s unashamedly summery and the music video is quite hilarious. The vocals, by Years & Years singer Olly Alexander, are floating and energetic, they take you away on a summer wave of sunshine.

The Magician is the alias of talented DJ/Producer, Stephen Fasano, and even his bio makes you smile, here’s the introduction: One night not so long ago, he appeared from a place between space and time. Apparently he stepped into this world, materializing in a cloud of crystal stars and soft pink smoke. Some claim he’s a former airline pilot who crashed an afterparty – some say it’s all just an illusion, a well performed hoax.

Every month he releases his DJ mix tracks, Magic Tapes, on Soundcloud – he’s up to 45 so far and has been gaining a cult following of disco, pop and house fans. He had an incredibly busy touring schedule throughout this year – it seems that everywhere The Magician DJs people come under his spell. Most people will probably know of him for his killer remixes, particularly his re-work of Lykke Li’s I Follow Rivers in 2011 (36 Million views on Youtube) and Clean Bandit’s Rather Be earlier this year.

The Magician was recently signed to Parlophone / Warner Records and made his label debut with the single When The Night is Over. This second single Sunlight – already storming up the charts – looks to be an even bigger hit. We look forward to much more ‘Sunlight’ from this great producer. 🙂

Sam Smith – Restart

By | Music Videos | No Comments

UK soul singer Sam Smith has just released a video for his personal favourite track on his album. Restart goes backstage and behind-the-scenes in Sam’s whirlwind year-long rise to fame.

(To watch this video in Creation 5, just tap here.)

2014 has been quite a year for Smith. He told the Guardian in an interview that he wanted to be the “biggest-selling male pop star in the entire world,”, well he’s not far from that. This year alone the 22-year-old star has won the BBC’s Sound of 2014 poll and the Crtics Choice Award. His debut solo single went straight to Nº1 in the UK and Nº2 in the US – the highest ever debut entry for a British singer. And last week he was nominated for four Mobo awards – Best Song (Stay With Me), Best R&B/Soul Act, Best Album (In the Lonely Hour) and Best Male Act.

This video seems like the perfect way to end a perfect year – a look back at all the tours and the action behind the scenes. “Restart is one of my favourite tracks on the album and I really felt like I wanted to visualise it,” says Smith. “I had such an amazing time putting this video together, remembering some incredible moments from this year and also a recent trip with my team to Brighton this summer.”

Smith’s debut studio album, In the Lonely Hour, was released in the UK on 26 May 2014 via Capitol Records. It went straight to Nº1 in the UK, outselling Coldplay’s album Ghost Stories by nearly 20,000 copies. In the US, it debuted at Nº2 with first-week sales of 166,000 copies.

Pharrell Williams – It Girl

By | Music Videos | No Comments

Pharrell Williams has snagged the world-famous Japanese artist Takashi Murakami to create his new music video for It Girl. It’s a hyper-colourful tribute to video games and anime.

(To watch this video in Creation 5, just tap here.)

This new video is the latest collaboration between Pharrell and Murakami – Pharrell remixed Last Night, Good Night, the theme song to Murakami’s film Jellyfish Eyes. Directed by Mr. Fantasista Utamaro this visual is a refreshingly different approach compared to Pharrell’s other videos – although nothing can compete with the creativity and genius of the 24 hour Happy video.

The song is a relaxed and groovy track – one of the stand-out tracks from his solo album G I R L. Throughout the crazy, kaleidoscopic 5-minute clip there are plenty of nods to 80s video games and even a reimagined Mount Rushmore complete with a Pharrell head.

The video premiered on Tuesday 30 September on the The Today Show as well as on the Times Square billboard. It’s the 4th single to be taken from G I R L following Happy, Marilyn Monroe, and Come Get It Bae.

Pharrell has experienced so much success in the last few years – especially with his chart-busting track Happy, which has now become the UK’s most downloaded song of all time: “Most of this whole entire experience of Happy, I attribute to everyone else. When you talk about the success of the song in the UK and it being the most downloaded song, I’m totally honoured to be a part of it but I am very clear as to where the emphasis and the appreciation and the accolade should go – and that’s to the people.”
