Nicki Minaj’s wild, emotional journey on the road to her 2014 album The Pinkprint is the subject of a new MTV documentary titled Nicki Minaj: My Time Again. The film is a sequel to her 2010 documentary My Time Now which looked at the rapper’s meteoric rise to fame and the release of her debut album Pink Friday. Now that she is already established as one of hip-hops top MCs she has broken into another stratosphere of stardom and, as seen in the trailer, the sequel provides an in-depth look at Minaj – in the studio, on the stage and with friends and family.

“I didn’t know that this album would entail an emotional roller coaster,” Minaj says in the trailer. “No one could prepare for this business. Until you are in it, you really can’t wrap your brain around it.”

The 60-minute film also takes a look at last year’s chaotic MTV Video Music Awards – a huge python bites one of the back-up dancers during rehearsals and Minaj suffers a serious wardrobe malfunction during her performance of Bang Bang with Ariana Grande and Jessie J. We also get a rare glimpse into Her Minajesty’s private life, with plenty of laughs and tears along the way. “Every human needs to push themselves to the point of breaking sometimes,” she explains. “If you never break, you never know how much pressure you could take.”

Nicki Minaj: My Time Again will air on Sunday, January 18 at 10pm (ET/PT) on MTV.
