St. Patrick’s Day, or the Feast of Saint Patrick, has come to be associated with everything Irish: anything green and gold, shamrocks and luck. Most importantly, to those who celebrate its intended meaning, St. Patrick’s Day is a traditional day for spiritual renewal and offering prayers for missionaries worldwide.
May the Irish hills caress you;
may her lakes and rivers bless you;
may the luck of the Irish enfold you;
may the blessings of St Patrick behold you
Everyone’s Irish on March 17 and celebrations are held all over the world. Our favourite tradition is in Chicago where they’ve been dying the river green every year since 1962!
Here’s our Top 10 Irish sayings:
- May neighbours respect you, trouble neglect you, the angels protect you, and Heaven accept you.
- May you have the hindsight to know where you’ve been, the foresight to know where you are going, and the insight to know when you have gone too far.
- “All the world’s a stage and most of us are desperately unrehearsed.” – Sean O’Casey
- It is better to spend money like there’s no tomorrow than to spend tonight like there’s no money!
- May you always have a clean shirt, a clear conscience, and enough coins in your pocket to buy a pint!
- It’s easy to halve the potato where there’s love.
- May your home always be too small to hold all your friends.
- May you die in bed at 95, shot by a jealous spouse.
- Here’s to women’s kisses, and to whiskey, amber clear. Not as sweet as a woman’s kiss, but a darn sight more sincere!
- A good laugh and a long sleep are the two best cures.
