The day of romance or love we call Valentine’s Day is named after a Christian martyr and dates back to the 5th century, but has origins in the Roman holiday Lupercalia.

According to findings, people living in Sinapore spend the most on on Valentine’s Day, with 60% of Singaporeans saying that they would spend between $100 and $500 during the season leading up to the holiday. Wow!
Saudi Arabia has made Valentine’s Day illegal. Young people in Saudi Arabia have been arrested since Saudi Arabians think Valentine’s Day is not an Islamic festival.
In Taiwan, the traditional Qixi Festival, Valentine’s Day and White Day are all celebrated. However, the situation is the reverse of Japan’s. Men give gifts to women on Valentine’s Day, and women return them on White Day. Seems fair – plus you get more days of celebration which is never a bad thing.
In the US, about 190 million Valentine’s Day cards are sent each year! Think of the paper! And that figure does not include the hundreds of millions of cards school children exchange. In recent years Valentine’s Day has become so commercialized with Valentine’s Day themed advertisements encouraging you to spend it all on your loved one. In fact, in the US alone, the average valentine’s spending has increased every year, from $108 a person in 2010 to $131 in 2013.
You can find Valentine’s skull in Rome! The flower-adorned skull of St. Valentine is on display in the Basilica of Santa Maria in Cosmedin, Rome. You’ll find other bits of St. Valentine’s skeleton on display in the Czech Republic, Ireland, Scotland, England and France. Is there no respect?
