80s icon and former Knight Rider and Baywatch star David Hasselhoff has just released a new single – True Survivor – and it’s an 80s synth rock dream! The track is lifted from the soundtrack of King Fury, a martial arts comedy film that was completely funded on Kickstarter. 17,713 backers pledged $630,019 to help fund the movie, which is slated for a May 28 release. On Kickstarter the film is described as “a visually spectacular action comedy that has its foundation in ’80s cop movies.”

As you might expect, the video is completely crazy. The Hoff takes on numerous villains, including Nazis and robots, whilst sporting an 80s-style mullet and leather bomber jacket. Gunfights? Dogs with lasers for eyeballs? Hitler? Kung fu? A giant viking? Explosions galore? Dinosaurs? Sure! The video was shared on Twitter by Jared Leto who wrote, “Say THANK YOU for putting this in your life.”

“The song is perfect for me as I really am, in real life, a True Survivor,” Hasselhoff said to Idolator. “The ’80s was about fun, action, and heroes. Kung Fury has it all! I’m honored to be involved with [director] David Sandberg, an up-and-coming force of nature in the animation digital entertainment world,” he said.

Kung Fury was written and directed by David Sandberg who also appears in the film with Joanna Häggblom, Andreas Cahling and Leopold Nilsson. Find out more about the film on www.kungfury.com
