Songs for Autumn

By September 23, 2014Music

Today Google marked the first day of Autumn, the September equinox – with a great doodle. We’re marking it with a playlist – a collection of classic songs that give you a sense of the changing seasons.

There are two equinoxes every year, in September and March – when the sun shines directly on the equator and the length of the day and night are more or less equal. This happens either on September 22, 23, or 24 every year. Of course as we enjoy the first day of Autumn some of you reading this might be on the other side of the world enjoying the first day of Spring, the Vernal Equinox!

It’s true to say that all seasons inspire artists in different ways, but this colourful, poignant time of year has inspired some of the greatest tracks of all time. So grab your pumpkin spiced latte from Starbucks, stick your headphones on and enjoy the year’s last, loveliest smile.

“Fall has always been my favorite season. The time when everything bursts with its last beauty, as if nature had been saving up all year for the grand finale.”
